THE AUTHOR

Dr. Tisa (pen name for the children’s book series) is an established author, professional illustrator, and inventor. She is a physical therapist with a Ph.D. in statistics. Her research publications contribute to the fields of cancer research at the cellular and clinical levels, orthopedic research, physical therapy, and autism. Her nickname “Tisa” was given to her by a sibling who could not pronounce her given name, which is “Theresa.” Dr. Tisa has enjoyed working with children all her life and has a knack for understanding their struggles, concerns, and difficulties. She learned how to communicate with her younger nonverbal autistic brother when she was only 5 years old. She has continued to devote her energy to helping children understand, navigate, or adapt to the emotional tides of life.
